A small, family-run North Yorkshire hotel has been named Country Hotel of the Year. The Good Hotels Guide selected The Traddock, in Austwick, near Settle, for one of its ten Cesar awards. The annual accodades are celebrated as the Oscars of the hotel industry.A grade II-listed Georgian country house, The Traddock was chosen from a shortlist of 450 for its 'supremely comfortable' interior and 'caring service'. The Cesar joins a catalogue of honours for the hotel and restaurant, including the Conde Nast Johansons Readers' Award 2013 and an AA 4 Star Gold Award 2013.The Traddock has been owned and run by The Reynolds family, Paul, Jenny and Paul's parents Bruce and Jane since 2002. It offers 12 individually-designed ensuite bedrooms, which start from £95 per-room-per-night bed-and-breakfast.Its unusual name is a contraction of 'Trading Paddock' which was a local name for the field the house was built on. Records indicate that farmers held regular horse and cattle trading markets there throughout the 1600s. Local landowners, the Ingilby family built the house in around the 1740s and it remained one of the Ingilby family homes for almost 200 years. On making the award of Country Hotel of the Year, the judges said: "The Reynolds family have given their small hotel, an old manor house, the feel of a country home, not grand, nor designerish, but supremely comfortable. The caring service is admired."Paul Reynolds said: "When my family bought The Traddock in 2002, it was very run down. But we all fell in love with this historic building in a very speacial location. We've had a memorable decade of continual learning, hard work, improvement and achievements. During this time we've brought all our bedrooms up to a luxurious, yet cosy and comfortable, standard and employed some fantastic staff, who continue to be a vital asset to our hotel. To receive this accolade confirms to use that our leap into the hotel world has indeed been a successful and also an enjoyable one.In the last year alone we've refurbished our lounge and three of our bedrooms, fitted wood pellet boilers to provide a more sustainable way of supplying all the hotel's heating and hot water. We can only imagine where the next 10 years will take us."The hotel is popular with walkers, with both the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland on its doorstep. It is well known for its seasonal and locally sourced menu - inspired by the slow food movement, an award-winning organic wine list, generous afternoon teas and as a bespoke wedding venue.Another North Yorkshire establishment, The Black Swan at Oldstead, won a Cesar award for best Restaurant-with-Rooms.The last Yorkshire winner was Swinton Park in Masham, near Ripon, back in 2011.About the Good Hotel GuideThe Good Hotel Guide is a leading independent guide in Great Britain and Ireland. Each year it selects around 450 of the best hotels, inns, restaurants-with-rooms and B&Bs in the country and writes an entry on each based on anonymous inspections and reader reports.Hotels tend to be family-owned and relatively small and do not pay to be in the guide or see their entry before it is published.Every year the editors choose the ten hotels which have most caughts their eye during the year.
